This is the question we're asked most after 'can you help us get married here?' — and the honest answer is a little more nuanced than a simple yes. Here is how it actually works for most couples, and what to sort out early.
Legal marriage vs. the celebration
For most foreign couples, the practical and most common route is to complete the legal marriage — the paperwork and civil registration — in their home country, either just before or just after travelling, and to treat the Morocco wedding as the ceremony and celebration itself. Navigating Moroccan civil marriage procedures as two foreign nationals involves specific documentation and can take considerably longer to arrange from abroad than a home registration does.
This is not unique to Morocco — it's the standard pattern for most popular destination-wedding countries — and it doesn't take anything away from the day. A blessing, a symbolic ceremony or a religious ceremony (where applicable) can still be exactly as meaningful as the celebration you're picturing.
What to sort out early
Requirements change and depend on your nationality and whether one of you holds Moroccan nationality, so we always recommend confirming the current position with your embassy or consulate and, where relevant, Moroccan civil authorities, well before booking vendors.
- ◆Start the conversation with your home registry office or embassy first — it shapes your whole timeline.
- ◆If either of you is a Moroccan national, family law (the Moudawana) applies and the process differs — ask us to point you to the right local guidance.
- ◆Once the legal side is clear, we handle everything else: venue, guests, transfers, catering and the day itself.
